NEW! Painting Workshops
Wherever I exhibit my paintings people stop and ask if I give lessons. Well, I was always a little on the fence to offer painting lessons but after analyzing what I was doing in my painting process I realized there was a unique method to my painting. A few years back I attended a 10 day intensive workshop conducted by Scott Christiensen and learned among other things about the 5 types of light. I use these truths along with other proven principles and other diciplines to create my paintings. Over time and lots of practice I have developed my own unique methods that help me create my paintings.
You too can discover how to create a painting from nature. Or if you have experience the workshop will show you ways to improve your painting skills. That being said I am pleased to announce my new painting program.

Sample free painting lesson , enjoy!
Here is my approach to painting , starting with field studies , painted on location . The challenge is painting the fleeting light of the day. The reward is walking out of the wilderness with a gift from nature. I have been fortunate over the years to have recieved many of natures rewards. Many people ask me If I give lessons , this is for you. For more information , e-mail me at rjstump@aol.com

| This is Portland Light in Maine. A favorite motif for artists for over one hundred years. Of course the ship would not be that large on the horizon but I wanted to make it count in the picture. Sometimes you can fool the eye and still have the scene believable. I remeber while walking the cliff the sweeping light, and tried to capture that in the painting. I hope you enjoyed this sample.
