I painted this in spring in the Adirondacks. One of the challenges was getting the soft warm light on the budding foliage .
basic shapes, lights and darks
establish darks , work background cools & warms
adjust overall values and color temps
moving forward with the water ,reflections & transparency
re establish lights and darks
closing in on final details
add reflective light in shadows
I hope you enjoyed seeing this work in progress. I have found with this approach I can acheive a sense of realism and place in my paintings.
For me plein air painting is about the experience . This is the Cedar River down by the swimming hole in Indian Lake NY. Life is short get out and paint!
